How long is the appointment usually?
Consultations are normally between 5-10 minutes and teeth cleanings range from 10-25 minutes. Since Cheyanne has been cleaning pets teeth for over 10 years and uses an UltraSonic scaler she is very time efficient while still being gentle. Afterwards fur clients are reunited with their owners as we do not kennel the dogs. Making the whole process fast and as stress-free as possible.
How can you clean a dog's teeth while it's wiggling around on your lap?
Most doggies get gently swaddled in our laps. For the bigger doggies, they sit or lay down on our comfy teeth cleaning bed. We have a couple different position options which allows us to maintain control while keeping your dog comfortable and calm. Cheyanne has been trained to work with the behaviors of the breeds to effectively perform our service with little stress to your dog.
What is the cost of a teeth cleaning?
Teeth cleaning quotes start at $70.00 and go as high as $200.00. Quotes are based off how much plaque accumulation your dog has, and how many teeth there are to clean. We’ll start the first appointment with a consultation to make sure your dog is a candidate for cosmetic teeth cleaning. If we do not find any concerns in your dog’s mouth that need to be addressed by your veterinarian you’ll be given a quote for the cleaning. In which we can start right after. If we do find concerns in your dog’s mouth, we unfortunately will not be able to proceed with a cleaning. Our fee for consultations is $45.
Won’t my dog panic when you attempt to use tools in their mouth?
We work one-on-one with your dog to gain their trust and are very patient with them. Animals have a way of sensing someone’s energy. As Cheyanne has been working with animals for over 15 years she is very calm and confident in her work, and animals are able to sense that. This energy puts most animals at ease. The tools are slowly introduced and once your pet realizes it does not hurt, almost every dog will allow us to continue the cleaning.
Are old dogs that have health issues candidates for anesthetic-free teeth cleaning?
Yes! As long as there are no serious dental disease and/or loose teeth in your dog’s mouth that would inhibit us from doing the cleaning. Anesthetic-free cleanings are a wonderful alternative for older pets, or ones with heart, kidney, liver, or respiratory issues who cannot handle general anesthesia.
Can Happy Tails perform cleanings on every dog?
No, there are some dogs who are not candidates for our services. These pets usually have dental disease and/or fractured teeth and/or loose teeth. Some pets have behaviors/temperaments that are not a good fit for this procedure and it will be recommended your pet see the Veterinarian for a teeth cleaning. Cheyanne is aware of her limitations and can easily recognize these issues in your dog and will discuss with you what is best for your doggie.
How do you handle aggressive or fearful dogs?
We can usually tell within the first few minutes of the consultation whether your dog’s temperament will allow for a cleaning. In almost all cases we are able to calm fearful dog’s with our gentle touch and calm energy. If your dog demonstrates highly aggressive behavior, they are not a candidate for anesthetic-free cleanings.
Can you pull loose or problem teeth?
No, we do not extract teeth. If your pet is in need of any extractions we will refer your pet to the veterinarian.
